Stretching along the Hudson River north of New York City, the Hudson Valley offers a completely different side of New York. Historic communities, rolling landscapes, farms, mountains, wineries, parks, and dramatic river views make the region an easy escape from the energy of the city and a fantastic destination for a scenic drive.
The Hudson Valley is particularly enjoyable when you give yourself the freedom to explore. Visit historic estates and small towns, stop at local farms and restaurants, hike to scenic viewpoints, or simply follow the river and see what you discover along the way. With attractions scattered throughout the region, it's a place where the journey between destinations can be just as enjoyable as the stops themselves.
Its combination of scenery and history also makes the Hudson Valley an easy addition to a larger New York trip. You can spend a day outside the city, build an entire weekend around the region, or incorporate it into a longer road trip through New York and the Northeast.

Getting There
The Hudson Valley is easily accessible from New York City, making it a popular option for both day trips and longer getaways. Metro-North provides rail service from the city to numerous communities along the Hudson River, while Amtrak offers additional connections farther north through the valley.
For the greatest flexibility, however, we recommend exploring the Hudson Valley by car. Attractions are spread throughout the region, and driving gives you the freedom to visit parks, historic sites, small towns, farms, and scenic areas that aren't always convenient to reach by train. Several major highways provide access from New York City and the surrounding Northeast, making the Hudson Valley particularly well suited for a road trip.
