Our Experience - Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site
The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is much more than a preserved presidential home. The expansive Hyde Park property provides a fascinating look at the place FDR remained connected to throughout his life, from his childhood through his presidency and final years.
The grounds themselves are free to enter and offer plenty to explore, although this was noticeably busier than some of the other National Park Service sites we visited in the Hudson Valley. If you'd like to go deeper into Roosevelt's story, additional paid experiences include touring Springwood, his longtime family home.
The property is also home to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. It's important to note that the library is separate from the National Park Service site and requires its own admission. That does, however, give history lovers the opportunity to combine the two into a much more extensive FDR experience if you have enough time.
Whether you simply explore the grounds or dedicate several hours to the home, exhibits, and presidential library, this is one of the Hudson Valley's most significant historic destinations and an especially worthwhile stop for anyone interested in American presidential history.
