Our Experience - Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site
Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site combines Gilded Age history with some absolutely beautiful Hudson Valley scenery. The estate was once the seasonal home of Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt, and today the National Park Service preserves both the mansion and the expansive property surrounding it.
One of the best things about visiting is that you don't necessarily have to tour the mansion to enjoy the site. Entry to the grounds is free, allowing you to walk around the estate, explore the gardens, and simply enjoy the landscape. We especially loved the formal gardens, which make the property worthwhile even if you're primarily looking for a peaceful outdoor stop.
If you want to see inside the mansion, guided tours are available for an additional fee. The tour provides a much deeper look into the estate and the extravagant lifestyle of the Gilded Age. If you have an eligible America the Beautiful annual park pass, the mansion tour is included, giving national park enthusiasts another reason to add Vanderbilt Mansion to a Hudson Valley trip.
