Our Visit to the New York Transit Museum

If you're even remotely interested in trains or public transportation, the New York Transit Museum is one of the coolest museums you can visit in New York City. It's located inside a decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn, which means the museum doesn't simply tell the story of New York transitβ€”the building itself is part of that story.

One of the highlights is the collection of historic subway cars lined up along the old station platforms. Being able to step aboard and see how New Yorkers traveled during different eras makes the history far more tangible than simply looking at photographs behind glass. Walking through the cars also makes it surprisingly easy to appreciate just how much the city's subway system has evolved.

The museum goes well beyond vintage trains, exploring the construction, engineering, people, buses, infrastructure, and enormous transit network that helped New York grow into the city it is today. It's fascinating to consider how fundamentally different New York would be without the system moving millions of people beneath and across the city.

But really: it's a museum about trains and transit history located inside a decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn. Need we say more? For fellow transportation nerds, this one practically recommends itself.
