What to Expect

๐Ÿด Cicchetti for Dinner

Visit traditional bacari for a variety of Venetian cicchetti, turning an evening of small bites into a delicious progressive dinner.

๐Ÿน Spritz on Spritz on Spritz

Pair your cicchetti with different Venetian drinks while learning about the flavors, ingredients, and traditions behind the city's spritz culture.

๐Ÿฅช Our Favorite Bite

Our favorite was a fried dough filled with ham and cheese โ€” warm, crispy, ridiculously good, and even better alongside a local Venetian beer.

๐Ÿบ Beyond the Spritz

While spritz takes center stage, other local drinks may be available too. Our guide even tracked down the bottle of the Venetian beer I ordered so I could see exactly what I was drinking.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Drink Like a Venetian

Discover traditional spritz options including Select, Campari, and Cynar while learning just how different their flavors can be โ€” from sweeter and approachable to seriously bitter.

๐Ÿจ Finish with Gelato

Because any good Italian food tour needs dessert, finish the evening with gelato after eating and drinking your way through Venice.

Our Experience - Venice Bacaro Food Tour

If our first Venice food tour introduced us to cicchetti, the Venice Bacaro Food Tour showed us how those small bites can become an entire night out. This was essentially our dinner for the evening, moving between bacari for different cicchetti and drinks while experiencing a wonderfully social side of Venetian food culture.

Our guide, Beatrice โ€” Bea โ€” was incredible. Beyond knowing the food, drinks, and history, she made a real effort to spend time talking with everyone in the group and made us feel genuinely welcome in her city. It gave the evening less of a structured tour feeling and more of the atmosphere of heading out around Venice with someone who couldn't wait to show you what to eat and drink.

And there was plenty of both. Each stop brought more cicchetti along with a drink pairing, which meant plenty of opportunities to explore Venice's famous spritz culture. We learned about options like Select, Campari, and Cynar and, importantly, that ordering a spritz in Venice isn't quite as simple as just saying "spritz." Different aperitifs can produce dramatically different flavors, ranging from relatively sweet to decidedly bitter, and learning those differences made ordering them considerably more interesting for the rest of our trip.

Our favorite bite of the evening was a fried dough filled with ham and cheese, which I paired with a local Venetian beer instead of another spritz. Naturally, I needed to know exactly what beer I was drinking. When I asked Bea about it, she actually went back to the counter, found out what it was, and returned with the bottle so I could take a picture. This is important travel research, after all.

By the end of the evening, we'd eaten plenty of cicchetti, sampled our way through Venetian drinks, learned more about the history and culture surrounding both, and finished everything off with gelato. It was an excellent way to turn dinner into an experience rather than simply sitting down at a restaurant.

We loved this tour. The food was delicious, the drink pairings made every stop a little different, and Bea created an incredibly welcoming atmosphere throughout the evening. If you want to experience the bacaro tradition and spend a night eating dinner a little more like a Venetian, this is a fantastic way to do it.
