Our Experience - Teeling Distillery Tour

Our tour of the Teeling Whiskey Distillery was a great introduction to both the history and production of Irish whiskey. Beyond simply learning how Teeling makes its whiskey, we especially enjoyed discovering what makes Irish whiskey, well, Irish whiskey.

The guided tour takes you directly through the working production facility, where we saw the fermenters and stills while learning how the whiskey moves through each stage of production. Being able to see the equipment in action made it much easier to understand the process and the traditions behind the spirit.

The one part of the process you won't see is the aging. Teeling stores its barrels at another location, so after learning about the history and watching the whiskey being produced, you'll have to take their word for what happens over the next several years. We would have loved to see the barrels and maturation process, and their absence made the production portion feel a little shorter than we expected.

That said, our entire experience still lasted about an hour once the tasting was included. We finished with a guided tasting of three of Teeling's signature Irish whiskeys, giving us a chance to taste some of the differences we had just spent the tour learning about.

Even without the barrel-aging portion on site, we really enjoyed the experience. The combination of Dublin whiskey history, a working production facility, and a guided tasting makes Teeling a worthwhile stop — especially if you're interested in understanding how Irish whiskey is actually made.
