Louisville, KY

Bourbon, baseball, racing, and plenty of Kentucky character

Sitting along the Ohio River, Louisville combines Kentucky traditions with the energy of a lively modern city. It's home to the Kentucky Derby, legendary bourbon, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and a growing food and drink scene, giving visitors plenty to experience whether they're stopping for a weekend or using the city as the starting point for a longer Kentucky adventure.

Downtown Louisville puts several of the city's best-known attractions within easy reach, while neighborhoods beyond the city center offer breweries, restaurants, shops, and plenty of local personality. Add in historic architecture, waterfront spaces, and easy access to Kentucky's surrounding bourbon country, and Louisville makes an excellent introduction to the Bluegrass State.

Getting There

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) is the city's primary airport and is conveniently located just a few miles south of downtown. Louisville is also an easy road-trip destination, with major highways connecting the city to Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, and other destinations throughout the region. Once you arrive, having a car is helpful if you plan to venture outside the city — especially for trips into Kentucky's bourbon country — although many downtown Louisville attractions are located close enough together to explore on foot.
