Our Experience - Idaho Potato Museum
If you're taking a road trip through Idaho, at some point you simply have to embrace the potato. The Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot gives you the perfect opportunity, combining agricultural history, quirky exhibits, and an appropriate amount of potato-themed fun inside a historic railroad depot.
The museum explores how potatoes became such an important part of Idaho agriculture, with exhibits covering everything from farming and harvesting to the history of the industry. It's educational without taking itself too seriously, making it the kind of unusual roadside museum that's easy to work into a road trip and far more memorable than you might initially expect.
But learning about potatoes is only half the experience. Make sure you leave room to actually eat some at the Potato Station Café. And our recommendation is very specific: try the Potato Dollars! These crispy potato slices were absolutely delicious and exactly the kind of food you should be eating after visiting a museum dedicated entirely to potatoes.
Between the museum, the giant potato outside, and the chance to finish your visit by eating the state's most famous crop, the Idaho Potato Museum is just plain fun. It's quirky, unmistakably Idaho, and one of those stops that gives a road trip some personality. Come for the giant potato, learn more about Idaho agriculture than you ever expected, and stay for the Potato Dollars.
